Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa Inc. (TKAA) is a recognised authority in the field of indigenous education and training, with 16 years in developing and implementing programmes that are kaupapa driven.

Through its existing and relationship building Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa provides its services nationally and internationally.

Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa became an Incorporated Society on 28 February 1991 and has a governance body, Komiti Tumuaki, of up to nine members whose term of office is three years.  Members are appointed based on specific skills for existing portfolios in legal matters, policy development, business and finance, professional practices and tikanga and kaupapa Mâori. Two of the Komiti Tumuaki members are representative of the Associate Iwi Agencies.

Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa has an operations unit led by a Pouârahi with staff.  The operations of the organization is usually based in the rohe from which the Pouârahi (CEO) originates. In the past Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa head office has been:

  • Kirikiriroa - Hamilton
  • Tûranga nui a Kiwa - Gisborne
  • Manawatû - Palmerston North
  • Currently situated in Rûâtoki - Eastern Bay of Plenty

The continuous business of the organization is training and education in the fields of whânau, hapû and iwi development.

Thirty two Associate Iwi Agencies have chosen to have strategic alliances with Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa. On average Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa boasts about twenty-five agencies per year.

Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa is a Pû Wânanga (Indigenous Qualifications Authority) committed to assisting whânau, hapû and iwi in the validation of their belief systems, values and practices. Over the last sixteen years Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa has established Te Manatû Mâori Tuku Tohu (Indigenous Qualifications Framework) .

Te Korowai Aroha o Aotearoa has devised principles of learning and teaching for this Framework that are appropriate to Mâori.

These principles highlight the values of:

  • kaupapa
  • tikanga, and
  • mana motûhake
